Mr. Eugene Talmadge Smith

Mr. Eugene Talmadge Smith, 81, of Royston, GA passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at his home. Mr. Smith was born in Oglethorpe County, GA on January 20, 1941, son of the late James (Jim) Daniel Smith and the late Annie Ruby Peterman Smith. He was a retired minister of 60+ years and a foreman with Quarries Incorporated. Mr. Smith was the former pastor of Lifeline Church in Bowersville, GA of which he remained a faithful member until his passing. He was also a member of the Elberton Granite Association and worked in the granite industry for over four decades. Eugene Smith devoted most of his life to the ministry and serving others and was known for his love of the Lord, his unwavering generosity and humility, and his infectious, fun-loving spirit. He worked hard and loved hard, but during his retirement, he especially enjoyed watching Gunsmoke and The Andy Griffith Show, being with his fur babies, Blackie and Ace, and his two great-grandsons, Cope and Gunner. Mr. Smith also worked with a food mission, delivering food to those in need. His compassion and genuine love of others was unparalleled. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Daniel Smith. Survivors include his son, William Paul Smith (Susan) of Royston, GA; daughters, Rebecca Ann Smith of Royston, GA and Mary Smith Geren (Shawn) of Anderson, SC; step-daughters, Lucreda Kay Coots of Washington, GA and Elizabeth Lavada Graham of Royston, GA; brother, James Smith of Oglethorpe County, GA; sisters, Sarah Nell Hill of Hull, GA and Myrtle Brake of Union Point, GA; grandchildren, Kenan Geren, Tyler Smith, Shelby McCollum, Hannah Milligan, and Madilyn Geren; great grandchildren, Cope Eugene McCollum and Brady Gunner McCollum; and one great grandchild on the way. Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held in the Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2022, with Pastor Clifford Shepherd officiating. Interment will follow in the Franklin Memorial Gardens- North in Lavonia, GA. The family will receive friends at Pruitt Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. until the funeral hour on Sunday afternoon. Otherwise, the family will be at the home. Pruitt Funeral Home in Royston, GA is in charge of arrangements.
