Rev. Malcolm Whitfield Herndon

Rev. Malcolm Whitfield Herndon, 93, of Franklin Springs, GA passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home in Augusta. Rev. Herndon was born in Dry Fork, VA on December 30, 1932, son of the late Leonard Hilton Herndon, Sr. and Lucy Martin Herndon. He was a retired college math professor having worked for Emmanuel University for many years, a United States Army Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict and later retired from the United States Air Force Reserves. Rev. Herndon was a member of Swansonville Pentecostal Holiness Church of Virginia, a lifelong attendee of Franklin Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church, a career volunteer with Brown Memorial Convalescent Center and served in chapel ministries at St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital for about 25 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Adkins Herndon; brothers, Orville Herndon, Harold Herndon, Leonard Herndon, Jr., Carroll Herndon and Eugene Herndon; sisters, Doris Reynolds, Alma Wright, Blanche Holley, Rebecca Mumpower and Barbara Guerry; and great-granddaughter, Kairi. Survivors include his daughter, Jeanette Phillips (Kenneth) of Watkinsville, GA; sons, Keith Herndon of Cornelia, GA, Ronald Herndon (Anthony Antignani) of Atlanta, GA, Mark Herndon (Melissa) of Royston, GA and Kevin Herndon (Cynthia) of Flowery Branch, GA; grandchildren, Lauren Fleming (Slade), Tyler Phillips, Timothy Herndon (Nisa), Jonathan Herndon, Ty Herndon, Casey Herndon (Valerie), Hillary Davison (Keyes), Mollie Herndon, Lindsey Allen (Grant), Hannah Armstrong (TJ) and Wesley Herndon (Mady); and great-grandchildren, Caden, Haley, Landon, Lucy, Vera, Caroline, Lynlee, Clara, Millie and Rosie. Funeral services for Rev. Herndon will be held in the Franklin Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026, with Rev. Harrison Lampley and Rev. Levy Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Franklin Springs City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Franklin Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church from 11:30 a.m. until funeral hour on Friday.
