Mr. Alton Gwinnett Argo

Mr. Alton G. Argo passed away from here to eternity on August 13, 2020. He was an 86 year old “recycled teenager” as he always liked to say. He also liked to be called Pawpaw by grandkids and others. Born and raised in Franklin County, he was the youngest and last of eight siblings. Mr. Argo served in the U.S. Army and was married to Shirley Heaton for 58 years until she passed away in 2012. They resided in Gwinnett County while working at General Motors for 31 years to provide for his family. After retirement, he worked with Gwinnett County school system and then he and Shirley moved to Lula, GA where he worked with the Banks County school system. His last stop before heaven was at a Senior Living home in Gainesville where he enjoyed bingo. Throughout his life he was an avid gardener, growing flowers and vegetables, building rock gardens, fishing, hunting, active in local baseball and napping. He loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. He was a committed Christian reading his bible every day and attending church at Mount Carmel Baptist in Lula where he was a member. He leaves behind a son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Joni Argo; daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Argo and Jeffrey Clower; granddaughters, Margo A. Clower, April Argo Walden (Addison), Katie Argo Davidson (James); and six great grandchildren. A graveside service for Mr. Argo will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2020, in the Peniel Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery with Rev. James Duncan officiating. Pruitt Funeral Home in Royston, GA is in charge of arrangements.
