Mrs. Gladys Freeman Rowland

Gladys Cornelia Freeman Rowland died Saturday, June 27, 2020, at the age of 98 and a half years. She lived most of her life in Anderson County, SC, and was married to the late Leasure Rowland of Anderson, SC. Gladys was retired from Singer Sewing Machine Manufacturing with 30 years of service. She was a longtime resident of Morningside Assisted Living and a member of Harvest Baptist Church—both in Anderson, SC. Gladys was born in Ila, GA, to the late George B. and Annie Ginn Freeman of Danielsville, GA, and graduated from Danielsville, GA, High School. Her children include daughter, Sandra, married to Martin Cooper, Sr. of Knoxville, TN, and Gladys was preceded in death by her son, Ted Rowland of Petersburg, WV. Gladys was also preceded in death by her brothers Lee, Frank, S.B., Clinton, and G.B. Freeman and by her sisters Nellie Hitchcock, Grace Gordon, and Dorothy Escoe. Gladys is survived by one sister, Callie McLeskey of Monroe, GA, and four grandchildren: Martin Cooper, Jr. of Knoxville, TN; Marianne Sanderson of Charleston, SC; Margaret Walker of Knoxville, TN; and Mark Rowland of Petersburg, WV. Her great grandchildren include, Zach Cooper, Cole Cooper, and Isaac Cooper of Knoxville, TN; Amelia Sanderson and Owen Sanderson of Charleston, SC; and Jaron Rowland and Brooke Rowland of Petersburg, WV. A private burial service will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park on July 2, 2020 at 2pm. A memorial service will be held later, after the COVID-19 pandemic has passed.
