Mr. Herman Ray Dowell, 61, of Royston, GA passed away on Tuesday, May 07, 2013, at his home. Mr. Dowell was born in Franklin County on April 22, 1952, son of the late Ernest Dowell and the late Addie Lee Patrick Dowell. He was a truck driver having worked with Dowell Express and a member of the Price Chapel Church of God. Survivors include his wife, Emma Peeples Dowell of Royston, GA; sons, Kenneth Shane Dowell, Rodney Lee Dowell, and Jamy Herman Dowell all of Royston, GA; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild; brothers, Roy Lee Dowell of Canon, GA, John Junior Dowell, James Edward Dowell and Charles Dowell all of Royston, GA, and Clyde Howard Dowell of Anderson, SC; sisters, Willie Ruth Phillips of Graniteville, SC, Mildred Stowe of Royston, GA, Mary Sue Hill, Louise Bennett and Gail Dowell-Wooten all of Canon, GA, Lucille Bailey of Hartwell, GA, and Wanda Owens of Anderson, SC. In addition to his parent, Mr. Dowell is preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Dowell and Melvin Dowell. Funeral services for Mr. Dowell will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 09, 2013, at the Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Stowe and Dr. Jerome Hill officiating. Burial will follow in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park in Hartwell, GA. The family will receive friends at Pruitt Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening. The family is at the home. Flowers are optional; memorials may be made to Gentiva Hospice, 855 Gaines School Road, Suite G, Athens, GA 30605. Pruitt Funeral Home in Royston, GA is in charge of arrangements.
