Mr. Jerry Wayne Floyd
May 14, 1936 - September 12, 2020
On September 12, 2020, Jerry Wayne Floyd, 84, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away. Jerry was born in the Goldmine Community in Canon, Georgia to Bessie and Clayton Floyd. He graduated from Royston High School in 1955 and married his beloved Shelby shortly after. Jerry was retired from Monsanto in Greenwood, SC. Jerry was the kind of father that would pitch for both sides when us kids were playing baseball and the neighbor kids knocked on the door to ask if he could come out to play. Known as Pop by his grandchildren, he was a jack of all trades, and could often be seen tinkering in his shed. He spent his life pursuing the perfect centipede lawn and achieved it at his Bowers Street home. He and Shelby visited Garden City Beach, SC several times a year and Jerry loved to ride his bike and walk along the beach looking for shark’s teeth. Jerry and Shelby attended New Hope Baptist Church on Wildcat Bridge Road in Royston, GA. Jerry is survived by his wife Shelby and their children, Kathy and her husband Tim McLaughlin, Duluth, GA; Ken Floyd and his wife Andree Richmond, Tucson, AZ; grandchildren Lindsey Floyd and great-granddaughter Teagan Frank, Orlando, FL; Caitlin McLaughlin, New York, NY; Dillon McLaughlin, Atlanta, GA; brother Donald Floyd (Eddie), Canon, GA; sister-in-law Joyce Floyd, Royston, GA; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jerry is preceded in death by his brothers Andrew Floyd (Bonnie), Goldmine Community, Canon, GA; Roscoe Floyd (Virginia), Savannah, GA; Hugh Floyd (Deverene), Kissimmee, FL; Mack Floyd (Amelia), Royston, GA; Gene Floyd; sisters Ida Hunnicutt (Freeman), Hartwell, GA; Pearl Beggs (James), Royston, GA; and Ruth Wansley (Howard), Royston, GA. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, September 15, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. in Franklin Memorial Gardens South, Royston, GA with Rev. Johnny Jones. The family will receive friends at Pruitt Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Monday afternoon. In lieu of flowers please donate to Samaritan’s Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
