Mr. Robert Sibbald Toomy

Robert “Bob” Sibbald Toomy, 66, of Royston, GA passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at The Oaks in Athens, GA. Bob was born in Malden, MA, son of William Hodge Toomy and Helen Marie Weaver Toomy. He was a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and received a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Georgia Tech. He was a past member of the U. S. Army’s Delta Force and, following his military service, launched a career in commercial construction. After retiring from the construction business, he became a Peace Corps volunteer in Cape Verde, Africa. While at West Point, developed a passion for rugby, and later became an international rugby referee. He was also an avid photographer and outdoorsman. Bob is survived by his son Robert Toomy of Tampa, FL, brother Kevin Toomyand family of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, sister Susan Russell, nieces; Jennifer (Adam) Kennedy, Kelley (Chris) Tamplin, all of Royston, and Sarah (Bryson) Nobles of Oxford, MS. He is additionally survived by great nephews Reed and Rylan Tamplin, and Rowan and Sawyer Kennedy, also of Royston, who cherished their “Uncle Bob”. Bob’s wishes were to be cremated, with no visitation or services, but with a memorial celebration at a later date. Pruitt Funeral Home in Royston, GA is in charge of arrangements.
