Mr. Tyrus Raymond Cawthon
June 22, 1948 - August 13, 2020
Tyrus Raymond Cawthon passed into his heavenly home on August 13, 2020, after a brave fight with Covid-19. Mr. Cawthon was born on June 22, 1948 in Toccoa, GA. He was married to Peggy for many happy years and loved their life together. They took long car trips together that were the highlight of the year. Ty never met a stranger and was known far and wide for his cattle knowledge. He was past president of the Franklin County Cattleman’s Association. He and Peggy had a lovely farm in Canon and were poultry growers for Fieldale for 36 years. Ty always loved his “purple martins” in the yard and hated to see them leave every year. Ty graduated from Franklin County High School in 1966. He worked for GA Power and then moved on to the GTE Phone Company. He made his career with them. He was a board member for 15 years with Five Area Fire Department and was an active member of New Franklin Christian Church where he served as a deacon. He loved the men’s fellowship group of the church. Ty is survived by his wife Peggy Pitts Cawthon of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Lisa Cawthon of Martin, GA and Sam and Lori Cawthon of Canon, GA.; sister, Martha Cawthon Taylor. Also the loves of his life, his grandchildren, Cort, Fallon, Caden, Maci and Brynn. He was also survived by three nephews and a special helper, O’Neil Chastain. He is preceded in death by his parents, T. O. and L. C. Chitwood Cawthon; son, Matt; and brother, Parks. Ty was quite the “Social Butterfly” and he will be greatly missed by all, especially his dear friends of the “Breakfast Club” at the Roystonian. A private funeral service for Ty will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 16, 2020, in the New Franklin Christian Church with Rev. Carl Beckham officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery where the public is welcome to attend. Mr. Cawthon will be placed in the church from 3:00 p.m. until funeral hour on Sunday afternoon. The family is at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the New Franklin Christian Church Cemetery Fund. Pruitt Funeral Home in Royston, GA is in charge of arrangements.
