Mr. William Ray Morgan
March 21, 1945 - January 28, 2021
William Ray Morgan, Sr., 75, of Canon, Georgia passed away on January 27, 2021, at the St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital in Lavonia, GA. Ray was born in Anderson, SC, son of the late John Cullen Morgan and the late Ara Hassletine Loggins Morgan. Ray was a man of many hats. First and foremost, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He served as the source of his family’s laughter as well as the source of their inspiration to build better lives for themselves; through becoming businessmen and women, public servants, and better members of their communities. A proud businessman himself, Ray was the founder and operator of Morgan’s Used Cars in Canon, Georgia for most of his life, opening the business in 1985. Ray’s path to becoming a cornerstone of the Canon community began with his business, but continued through his 27 years of public service; first as a member of the Canon City Council, and later through his tenure as Mayor of Canon. He was a proud member of the Canon community and he fought to bring businesses and opportunity to Canon. Ray was also a proud Christian and faithfully attended Canon Baptist Church. Ray was a dedicated family man and the patriarch of his family, teaching his family to appreciate many things in life. To those younger in his family he was known for travel adventures far and wide; dancing to jazz on the streets of New Orleans, riding bikes around Okracoke Island, enjoying walks down the streets of St. Augustine, admiring old cars at car shows in Myrtle Beach, buying fresh oranges at Florida flea markets, and taking tours of London and Paris. Ray instilled a love of travel and new experiences to many in his family. Throughout his life, he made many differences in the lives of his family and his community; inspiring those around him to pursue their goals and build better lives for themselves. Ray will be remembered and missed dearly by his family and community. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Angel Hope Schneider; brothers, John Morgan, Samuel Morgan, and Terry Lee Morgan; and sister, Barbara Alewine. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Jones Morgan; sons, Timothy Certain, William Ray Morgan Jr., and Cullen Morgan, all of Canon, GA; daughter, Faith Danielle Schneider Morgan of Canon, GA; step-sons, David Schneider, Jimmy Schneider, and Danny Schneider; sisters, Ann Thomas (David) of Lavonia, GA, Darlene Morgan of Anderson, SC, and Nancy Blakely of Canon, GA; grandchildren, Dillon Schneider, Hannah White, Amber Morgan, Marlee Morgan Anderson, Brandon Owensby, James Schneider, Megan Moon, Matthew Tyler, and Connor Fuhrman; and great-grandchildren, Chloe Schneider, Margo-Lynn White, McKinley White, Gunner Anderson, Grayson Moon, and Maddox Moon.
