Ms. Mary Bridget Perry

Mary Bridget Bernadette Gulliford Perry passed away on July 1, 2026 from Alzheimer’s disease. She was 79 years old. Mary was a mother first and foremost. Family meant the world to her and that was no secret to anyone who knew her. The memories she cherished and loved to share with all of her children were how much she loved being pregnant with each one of us and how we were exactly the same from the time we were in her womb to us later becoming adults. We could all count on a call on our birthdays going over the specific details of the day we arrived into the world. Her four children were the world to her and she made sure we all had everything we ever needed growing up. There was no room left for doubt that she loved each one of us. Growing up she was often times the disciplinarian and the nurturer for all of us. Whether it was teaching us right from wrong, reminding us of the importance of family, taking a moment to stop and help us learn something new by pulling out the Encyclopedia Britannica or the Dictionary when we had questions, or sitting up helping us with a book report by candlelight because the power went out during a storm. Brushing our hair and tracing out words on our backs to help us fall asleep at night. Taking the time to hear all about what we were interested in whether it was music, sports, art, dance, etc. When there were not enough hours in the day she found them for each of us. As adults she was there for our careers, our relationships, our weddings, every birth of her grandchildren, birthdays, purchasing of our homes, and every life event imaginable. We never stopped being her children and with that came all the advice, the long phone conversations catching up on our lives, and being sent home with a random blanket, snack, or something you had admired during your visit. She was a stay-at-home mom most of her life and she would say that was the most important job she ever had. She did work later in life at several different jobs. One of which was working alongside my father at a service station. Her ability to learn new things came so naturally and her curiosity was immeasurable. At 55 she went back to school and earned her GED. She had always regretted not graduating high school and we were all so incredibly proud. She was so intelligent and loved to debate about all subjects including religion. After receiving her GED, she worked at the GED center helping other students earn their GED’s. We would run into her students from time to time and they would all say that she was the reason they stayed with it and how grateful they were to her. Her love of animals came second to having children. We had many pets growing up from birds, to hamsters, to fish, but her greatest loves were her cats and dogs. In her later years especially, she was extremely close to her dogs. There was not an animal or human being that did not know they were loved by her. The bond that she shared could be seen and felt. She was a mother, a grandmother, a wife, a sister, a daughter, and a dear friend. Even though she is no longer with us in body, she left behind a part of herself in her four children. Whether it was her strong will, love of animals, strong opinions, determination, passion, curiosity, or commitment to being there for her family. Her greatest wish was to live long enough to see us all grown and able to take care of ourselves. That wish came true. Of course, our wish would be that she never would have had to go through this horrible disease and could have remained present in the last years of her life. Heaven has gained an angel, a fighter, and our very best friend. Our hope is that she has reunited with her loved ones and all of her animals that passed prior to her leaving this world. We are grateful she is no longer fighting this horrible disease and is now finally at peace. All the memories she held so dear flooding back in and she is finely free. We know she is watching down on all of us until one day we are with her again. We love you Mom, and we will carry you with us always. Pruitt Funeral Home in Royston, GA is in charge of arrangements.
